When God opens our eyes of faith, we begin to see our situation from His perspective. What appears to be a defeat can become an opportunity to recognise His protection, His purpose and His presence.
In the previous message, we looked at how faith helps us see beyond our present circumstances and recognise that God is greater than what we face. But beyond seeing that God is with us, there is a deeper revelation — God desires to open our eyes of faith so we can understand His protection, His purpose and His plan.
In 2 Kings 6, Elisha and his servant faced a moment of great danger. The enemy army had surrounded the city, and the servant saw no way of escape. But Elisha saw beyond the natural situation.
He understood that God’s protection was already present.
Elisha said:
“Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” (2 Kings 6:16)
Then he prayed:
“Lord, open his eyes so that he may see.” (2 Kings 6:17)
When the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, he saw the mountain full of horses and chariots of fire surrounding Elisha.
The protection of God had been there all along. What changed was not the situation, but the servant’s understanding of what God was doing.
In this message, we will discover how God gives spiritual understanding, how His grace sustains us through difficult seasons and how trusting His purpose helps us surrender every situation into His hands.
Our Eyes of Faith
There is a difference between seeing with our natural eyes and seeing through faith.
The eyes of the body focus on what is happening around us. They see difficulties, limitations and situations that appear impossible.
But the eyes of faith recognise that God is working beyond what we can immediately understand.
Elisha’s servant could already see the enemy army, but he could not see the heavenly protection surrounding them. Elisha prayed that his eyes would be opened so he could recognise the reality of God’s presence.
Many times, we need the same revelation. The problem may be real, but it is not the only reality. God’s power, His promises and His purpose are greater than what we can see.
When our understanding is opened, we begin to respond differently. We stop allowing situations to define God’s ability and we begin to trust His wisdom.
God’s Grace Is Sufficient
The life of Apostle Paul shows us the importance of spiritual understanding.
Paul experienced a struggle that he described as a thorn in his flesh. He prayed for God to remove it, but God answered:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
At first, Paul saw the weakness and the difficulty. But when God revealed His grace, Paul saw the situation differently.
He understood that God’s strength was greater than his limitation.
This is what happens when God opens our eyes of faith. We begin to see that His grace is not only available when life is easy; it is also present in seasons of difficulty.
A challenge does not mean God has abandoned us. Sometimes it becomes the place where we experience His strength in a deeper way.
The opening of our eyes of faith brings understanding. It helps us recognise that God’s presence is greater than our weakness.
Seeing God’s Purpose Through Faith
When we understand God’s purpose, we stop comparing our journey with others.
Every person has a different path, and God works differently in each life. What may look like success to others may not be God’s purpose for us, and what may look like failure may be part of His preparation.
This is why David could face Goliath. He did not see himself only through human ability. He understood that God had a purpose for his life.
This is why Moses could stand before Pharaoh. His confidence was not based on his own strength but on the God who sent him.
As Prophet T.B. Joshua said:
“This explains why weak people like me without fast legs and smoothness of tongue should ever remain grateful to God for the purpose He has made me.”
God’s purpose is greater than our limitations.
After we have done everything within our ability, we must leave the outcome in His hands. Our responsibility is obedience and faithfulness; God determines the result.
Sometimes what we call failure may be God’s way of preserving us.
Sometimes a delay may be preparing us.
Sometimes a difficult season may be strengthening our desire for Him.
When we trust His purpose, we can remain confident even when we do not yet understand His plan.
Eyes of Faith: Walking in Humility Before God
One of the greatest lessons from this message is learning to surrender to God.
When we pray, we must remember that prayer is not about instructing God. It is about submitting our hearts to His wisdom and trusting His will.
Exodus 14:14 says:
“The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”
When we recognise that God is fighting for us, we can release our worries and place our confidence in Him.
Humility does not mean pretending that difficulties do not exist. It means recognising that we need God’s help and trusting His direction.
Instead of saying:
“Why is my life like this? Why am I facing this situation?”
A humble heart says:
“Lord, I trust Your mercy. Help me follow Your will and strengthen my desire for You alone.”
When we humble ourselves before God, we place ourselves under His care.
Pray:
“Lord Jesus, be with me on my way to redemption. Strengthen my desire and my determination for You alone.”
When God opens our eyes of faith, we see beyond our limitations and recognise His purpose in every season. We learn that His grace is sufficient, His wisdom is perfect and His presence remains with us.
