TB Joshua, in his numerous sermons on faith, has enlightened us that the issue of faith cannot be overemphasized—it is a vital and foundational part of the Christian life.
As believers, we are daily met with the unwavering call to live by faith. Yet, many still wrestle with a simple but profound question: What is faith?
To address this essential question, we will examine two sermons by TB Joshua Faith is a Heavenly Currency and Faith is like a Light Switch, in which he provided practical illustrations and offered a clear, straightforward explanation of what faith truly means.
TB Joshua on Faith as a Heavenly Currency
TB Joshua, in one of his numerous sermons on faith, titled Faith is a Heavenly Currency, likened faith to world currencies (Dollar, Naira, Rand, etc.) and explained how the amount we possess determines what we receive. According to him, faith is the heavenly currency we use to purchase or receive heavenly blessings.
What are heavenly blessings? TB Joshua said, “Healing is a heavenly blessing; deliverance is a heavenly blessing; salvation—they are all heavenly blessings.”
He said that when we say, “Heal me, heal me,” and we are not healed, it does not mean we don’t have faith. It simply means we do not have the measure of faith required to “purchase” that healing. To receive the heavenly blessing, we are all waiting for, we need the heavenly currency — faith, to receive it.
Remember what Jesus said to His disciples in Matthew 17:16 when the father of the demon-possessed boy ran to Him, saying, “I brought my son to your disciples for them to deliver him, but they could not heal him.”
They failed not because they didn’t have power; they did because they lacked the measure of faith to release that power. The amount of currency you have determines the amount of blessings you can receive.
Faith as a Heavenly Switch
Faith is a channel through which the anointing flows. To further explain what faith is, TB Joshua in his message titled Faith is like a Light Switch, likened faith to a switch and starter. He said, faith is like a light switch that starts the electricity flow.
Faith is like the starter on a car – that is faith. For instance, if the anointing of God is present to heal you, you must put your faith to use. You have to use your faith to put a demand on the available anointing.
In Acts 5:14-16, the word “…shadow might fall…” expresses faith. From the above Scriptural passage, we can see that people came from surrounding cities to receive healing and deliverance.
This proves that where there is no demand, there is no supply and where there is demand, there is supply. There was enough available anointing to heal, deliver, and save them and they received what they demanded because they used their faith to put a demand on the anointing.
“Use your faith to put a demand. God has given us the gift of faith for this purpose.”

Faith is a gift (Ephesians 2:8) and God has given us the gift so we can put a demand on the anointing. Also, faith releases the many apostolic gifts, prophetic gifts, pastoral gifts, and evangelical gifts. Without faith, there is nothing we can do.
