The Keys to Activating Faith - Work

✝️ Faith Blog Series

In our journey through this series on faith, we began with Episode 1 – What Is Faith?, where we laid a strong foundation by exploring the nature of faith and why it’s essential to walk with God. Then in Episode 2, we went deeper, uncovering how the measure of faith influences what we receive, even when prayers seem delayed or unanswered. Episode 3, “The Just Shall Live by Faith,” further challenged us to live out this faith in every area of life.

So in Episode 4, we will be talking about “The Keys to Activating Faith – Work.” We’ll see from Hebrews 4:1–13 that there is a Word and a Word of Faith, and why many missed its profit when it wasn’t mixed with faith. Then, guided by James 2:14–22, we will confront head-on the truth that works without faith are dead and equally, faith without works is dead. We’ll examine how faith is uniquely expressed through action, how true faith aligns with works, and how our attitudes must shift when we truly commit a matter to God.

Get ready to discover how faith is not merely a belief but a moving force activated by obedience, verified by works, and perfected through action.

The Keys to Activating Faith – Work and Faith

Citing Hebrews 4:1–13, we see a distinction between the Word and the Word of Faith. This difference is the reason the Word did not profit some, it was not mixed with faith in those who heard it. As James 2:14–22 also affirms, works without faith are dead, and likewise, faith without works is dead.

The unique place where faith is made visible is in our actions. If faith and works are not aligned, then there is something wrong with the faith being claimed. There is faith in faith, faith in belief, and then there is true faith, faith in the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ. This living faith is expressed through our obedience, because our actions complete our faith. Faith is made perfect by what we do.

This means your faith is not genuine unless it is accompanied by works. Faith works together with action. Without works, faith remains ineffective. What we do reveals what we truly believe. In the same way, what a person does expresses what they truly believe in their heart.

The Keys to Activating Faith – Work of Faith Completes Faith

If you say you believe God in a certain matter, there should be a corresponding work of faith in that matter. Otherwise, your faith cannot help you receive God’s intervention or deliverance. In fact, you deceive yourself, your faith is counterfeit. If you claim to have faith, there must be works that match that confession.

When you commit an issue to God, your attitude towards that issue will inevitably change. The Bible says in Hebrews 4:3, “For we who have believed do enter that rest.”

If our hearts are filled with anxiety, if we are fearful or feel spiritually lost, it is a clear sign that we have not truly believed. The first step in activating our faith is to cease from our own striving and enter into the rest of God, resting in His love, His wisdom, and His power.

Rest is a Proof of Faith and Part of Work

Faith and rest are inseparable. If I say I believe God concerning something, then what follows? If I claim to trust Him to deliver me, yet I continue planning anxiously, worrying, and living in distress, what kind of belief is that? It is not biblical faith, it is false faith.

What does it mean to rely on our own works? It’s the mindset that says, “I believe in God because of miracles,” or “I’m here for the blessing.” That’s not faith in God, that’s faith in outcomes, or faith in experience. That’s not authentic faith; it’s emotional or circumstantial belief.

If someone truly believes a house is on fire, they will not remain seated inside. In the same way, when Christians commit an issue to the Lord and believe He will act, their attitude toward that issue will reflect that trust. Faith in God brings visible transformation.

If you pray about something that deeply concerns you, but afterward you are still anxious, still seeking worldly solutions, then that is not faith, it is a form of unbelief. Faith expresses itself in trust, surrender, and spiritual rest. This is how we know our faith is alive.

Conclusion

In conclusion, faith is not just something we speak or feel, it is something we live. True faith demands a response, a corresponding action. As James said, faith without works is dead, and Hebrews reminds us that those who believe enter into rest.

If our actions, attitudes, and emotions contradict what we claim to believe, we must reexamine whether our faith is truly grounded in Christ or merely in our own beliefs and desires. To activate faith, we must surrender our own striving, trust in God’s finished work, and allow our obedience to express that trust.

Faith is perfected by action, and real faith always leaves a trace, it changes us, it moves us, and it aligns our steps with God’s will. Anything else is simply empty confession.

In Episode 5, we’ll go deeper into the attitude behind active faith. What does it really mean to rest in God? Can we claim faith while still operating in fear, worry, or control? We’ll explore how the heart posture of faith is just as important as the outward works, and how trust in God must shape our emotions, decisions, and daily life. Don’t miss it.
