Many today confess faith in Jesus, attend church, and read the Bible — yet still live without the power, direction, and presence of the One Jesus promised: The Holy Spirit. Without Him, Christian life becomes a struggle; holiness, a burden; obedience, a task of the flesh. But with Him, life becomes guided, strengthened, and victorious.
In Episode 1 – Who Is the Holy Spirit?, we discovered the Holy Spirit as the third Person of the Trinity — our Divine Helper, Comforter, and Advocate. Then in Episode 2 – The Holy Spirit: Our Guest, we explored how He comes to dwell within those who welcome and honor Him.
Now in Episode 3, we ask a crucial question: Have you truly received the Holy Spirit since you believed? – Acts 19:1-3.
Without being filled, you cannot fully understand the Word, overcome temptation, or live a life that glorifies Christ. In this message, we reflect on the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer, the works of the Holy Spirit, and how the Holy Spirit transforms those who yield to Him.
Let us approach this truth with faith — because it is only by faith that we can receive and be filled.
The Ministry of the Holy Spirit: His Roles

Have you truly received the Holy Spirit since you believed?
That is the question you need to ask yourself. It is difficult to live right without being filled. You cannot obey the written Word without being filled. Without the Holy Spirit in Christian life, it’s like being without a Helper — because the Holy Spirit is our Helper.
The role of the Holy Spirit is vital in the life of every believer. How can one live a life of victory and obedience without the Helper in times of temptation?
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you.” – John 14:26
In his sermon on “Believe and be Filled with the Holy Spirit“, TB Joshua took his reading from the position of faith: Hebrews 4:1–end, James 2:14–end, John 16:12–end, John 14:15–end, and John 7:37–39.
No one can truly do the work of goodness — only God does that. You may do good works on your own, but often for selfish, classic, or material reasons. No one can fully obey God’s will except through the works of the Holy Spirit. Even human obedience may be tainted by motives known only to the individual.
Did you Receive the Holy Spirit When you Believed?
In John 7:37–39, Jesus said, “If anyone believes in Me, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” This He spoke concerning the Spirit. So, again, the question arises: Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?
The Holy Spirit in the life of a believer is not optional — it is essential. It is God’s will for every believer to receive and be filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18).
Wherever Jesus is glorified, the Holy Spirit comes. That means, without being filled, you cannot truly glorify Him. Wherever Jesus is honored, the Holy Spirit comes. That means, you cannot truly honor Him without the Spirit.
There is truth in God’s Word — but you cannot understand that truth without the Holy Spirit. There is healing, deliverance, blessing, and salvation in the Bible, but these are only fully unveiled to you through the Holy Spirit transformation that occurs when you are filled.
The Further Works of the Holy Spirit

To stay with Jesus is to stay with the Holy Spirit. That is where our safety lies. A Christian without the Holy Spirit is a Christian without a Helper. In times of tribulation, temptation, trial — no Helper. But God will not permit the test to be too great for those who rely on Him.
When you call on Jesus without being filled, you cannot fully experience His presence. So, many claim to be Christians — many of us claim to be believers — yet we are not filled.
How the Holy Spirit works in us is not just emotional or symbolic — it is practical, empowering, and transformational. He guides, convicts, strengthens, reveals, and comforts.
Ask yourself this question: How can God truly be your Father without the Holy Spirit since The Spirit is the Spirit of Adoption, enabling believers to cry out naturally, “Abba, Father”? (Romans 8:15).
If you don’t have the Holy Spirit or are not filled, you may be a Christian in name, but you are living without a Helper. Let us not settle for a life of proclamation without power. The Holy Spirit helps us in our struggles — and He is ready to fill all who believe.
The Ministry of the Holy Spirit in Believers: Conclusion
As we’ve seen today, the Christian life without the Holy Spirit is like a journey without direction, a battle without a weapon, and a calling without power. The Spirit is not an option for the believer — He is the power behind obedience, the revealer of truth, and our only Helper in times of trial.
You may believe, attend church, and even serve — but without being filled with the Holy Spirit, your strength will fail.
To stay with Jesus is to stay with the Holy Spirit.
Take time to reflect:
- Have you received Him by faith?
- Are you truly filled — or merely claiming the label of Christian without the Helper inside?
Let this message drive you deeper into prayer, reflection, and surrender. The Holy Spirit is waiting to fill you — not partially, but fully.
In the next teaching, we will look at how the Holy Spirit work in partnership with believers. Stay tuned for Episode 4 — coming soon.
